Pitch 3 business ideas, class votes on which to pursue

Legal structures, incorporating, licensing, naming, branding

Lab:

File a mock business, create a brand for a micro-business

Financial Planning

4-6 weeks

Budgeting, startup costs, pricing, sales forecasting, basic accounting

Lab:

Build a real budget and sales forecast

Marketing & Sales

4-6 weeks

Branding, social media, signage, customer acquisition, selling techniques

Lab:

Design marketing materials, practice sales at a pop-up

Operations & Execution

Inventory, scheduling, customer service, production, quality control

Run a micro-business for real

Management & Leadership

Hiring, delegation, team dynamics, conflict resolution, mentoring

Older students manage younger students in a live business

Our signature event at the Oregon State Fair. Teams of 4-6 students compete to build and run the most successful booth over 11 days of the fair.

  • 2-3 teams compete head-to-head
  • Students choose what to sell and build their business plan
  • Judged on revenue, customer service, marketing, and teamwork
  • Winning team earns scholarship grants
  • All participants earn completion awards
